HEADWAY INTERVIEW

        

Headway are an Indie / Rock band hailing from Nottingham. Headway is made up of Jay on Drums, Tom on Keys, Dave A on Bass, Joe on Guitar and Vocalist/Guitarist Dave W providing the serene yet powerful voice of Headway. With influences such as Foo Fighers, Jimi Hendrix, QOTSA and Pearl Jam its not at all surprising that what these guys and producing is nothing short of love-making for your eardrums!

Recently signed to Suretone/Interscope Records, these boys are starting their climb to deserved recognition in the music industry, and if you make one New Years Resolution not to break in 2008 ..... Its watch out for Headway!

Can you all introduce yourself …. Name age how you all met etc?
David Wright - singer and rhythm guitarist - age 26
Joe Watts - lead guitarist - age 26
David Astbury - Bass guitarist - age 28
Tom Harrison - Keyboards - 31
Jason Wright - Drums - 22

Dave - "Joe and I started the band at school over 10 years ago, we then poached Tom from another local band as we felt keys would enhance the songs, and bring another dynamic to our sound. Shaggy (Dave Astbury) had previously been to music college with Dave and he joined about three years later. Jason, who is Dave's brother, then completed the line-up in 2005."

David and Joe, you were in a band before Headway, how does that band compare to your current band, in musical terms?
The first band's repertoire was largely compiled from covers of Oasis, REM, the Beatles etc so there is quite a stark difference. Headway don’t have as many hits! Yet!

How are things going with Suretone Records … what can we expect in the near future from Headway?
Things are great thanks, our album is finished now and ready to roll this year. Our EP is available now on itunes and we're looking forward to a year of touring both the UK and the US.

What’s been Headways best gig so far?
Dave - "On the Jesse Malin Tour last summer we Played a hometown show at the Rescue Rooms in Nottingham which was also on my birthday."
Joe - "Bournemouth Arena a few years ago supporting Feeder."
Shaggy - "Temple Bar supporting local Dublin band Turn"
Tom - "V2004 festival at Stafford." Jay - "Also the Nottingham Rescue Rooms show on daves birthday"

Where do Headway hope to be in 5 years time?
Making Records and Breaking Records!

What are the bands 3 main ambitions?
Just to make records, sell records and then tour those records. we'd just like to be able to carry on doing what we love for as long as possible.

What is the favourite Headway song for each of you and why?
Dave - "Any Second Now - the performance live has become an emotional experience.
Joe - "Together We Fall - its a big rock song but it has many different, interesting parts going on within it."
Shaggy - "Left For Dead - i like the mood and feel of this track."
Tom - "Nothing To Keep Me Here - this song captures beautifully what Headway are about."
Jay - "Lord Knows - this track moves me"

Who would be the band you would each most like to support in the future?
Dave - Foo Fighters
Joe - Radiohead
Shag - Prince
Tom - Mew
Jay - Foo Fighters also
